Founder

My career in teacher development began as program director and staff trainer/mentor in an experiential education non-profit before I transitioned to higher education. In graduate school at Ohio State University, I honed my classroom teaching and course design skills, which were recognized at the departmental and college level. I mentored incoming graduate teaching assistants through the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning. While working in Champlain College’s Center for Learning & Teaching (2020-2025), I provided individualized coaching and professional development for new and experienced instructors, focusing on course and assignment design; experiential learning; and elevating equity, inclusion, and accessibility. I also developed and facilitated the college’s biannual orientation for new faculty, to rave reviews.

I’ve taught across humanities disciplines: religious studies, popular culture, folklore, literature, and more. Currently, at Champlain College, I teach interdisciplinary courses on folklore and place, and religion in popular culture and public life. My teaching emphasizes experiential projects and student-driven research. My own academic research focuses on inventive religious practices in pop culture fan communities.

I earned my PhD in Comparative Studies with an emphasis in Folklore at Ohio State, where I was a member of the Ohio Field School advisory committee and project manager of the American Religious Sounds Project. I also hold an MEd in Outdoor Education Administration from Georgia College & State University, and a BA in Religion and American Studies from Williams College. In my free time, I enjoy reading, dragon boat paddling, gardening, and chocolate in any form.
