New(er) Instructor Coaching​
I’ve worked extensively with new and newer instructors, including graduate students, adjuncts, and brand-new full-time faculty members. There are important distinctions between these groups, but they share distinct needs: demystifying the teaching experience, developing high-quality and manageable courses quickly, and building a teaching persona. Everyone is new to teaching at some point! This is my specialty.
Ongoing Faculty Support
Experienced faculty also benefit from a thought partner whose focus is on teaching rather than topic. I help you refocus on outcomes, identify areas for growth, and experiment with new techniques. Whether you are concerned about aspects of your teaching or simply want to explore new approaches, ongoing coaching is appropriate for faculty at any stage of your career.
Course Design Support
A new course build is a time-consuming and complex task that benefits from support for the length of the specific project. I coach you through outcomes-oriented design, important decisions about assessment and structure, and optimal choices for delivery, all in support of your subject expertise. (Please note that Course Design Support does not include instructional design services.)
Packages
Coaching is a significant investment of time and energy! Because very few projects can be accomplished in just one session, I accept clients who opt for blocks of work and/or time.
Month-by-month coaching is $750 per month, paid in the first week. The “punchcard” is $900 for six one-hour sessions with pre-meeting document review, and is valid for 12 months. (Why the per-session price difference? With weekly coaching, some months you’ll have five meetings, and you’re also getting a reserved time and more correspondence.) Custom projects are priced based on scope; contact me to discuss!
Note: Many dedicated professors and instructors are not paid what they deserve. (Ironically, the least compensated faculty are often more likely to seek coaching!) I am able to offer discounts to a limited number of clients who fit in one or more of the following categories and do not have access to a teaching center staffed by professional coaches/consultants at their institution(s)*:
- Adjunct faculty
- Graduate students teaching as instructor of record
- Anyone in their first year of teaching after completing a terminal degree
Actual discounted rates will depend on the package you choose and which criteria you meet. Preference will be given to Vermont-based clients. There may be a waiting list for discounted slots. If you believe you qualify for a discount, please mention it in your inquiry!
* If you do have access to a teaching center at one or more institutions where you teach, I regret that I cannot make discounts available, even if you fit the other categories.
